Welcome to Zappala Tropicals. We are a 100% Australian producer of Tropical Fruits with over forty years’ industry experience spanning three generations. Our first Tropical Fruit trees were planted in the 1980s as part of a whole of farm diversification strategy.

Our farm is based in Picturesque Bellenden Ker – Far North Queensland approximately 50km South of Cairns and is situated between the Bellenden Ker Mountain Range and the Russell River. We receive one of the highest rainfalls in Australia with hot, humid conditions year round.  Our Tropical Fruits are grown with love and care in the rich volcanic soils of the adjacent Bellenden Ker Mountain Ranges, thriving on the local climatic conditions.

As a family business, we are all involved in the daily commercial operations, strategy and future business development. Through our ongoing business operations and continual strive for improvement we have built and continue to maintain strong relationships with growers, suppliers and Research and Development organisations.

Whilst we live in a tropical paradise, the natural climatic conditions and tendency for frequent Tropical Cyclones often make conditions trying and exhausting.

Tropical Fruits

Our range of Tropical Fruits range from the common well-known to the rare unknown. Our primary crops include Rambutan, Durian, Mangosteen, Jackfruit and Pomelo. We have one of Australia’s largest collection of genuine Durian and Rambutan varieties established over 40 years of continual business operations and ongoing product development.

We also produce minor quantities of  Black Sapote, Chempadek, Abiu, Longkong and Langsat.

We supply our Tropical Fruits direct to various local and Australian wholesale markets. We welcome all enquiries for the supply of Tropical Fruits.

Tropical Fruit Tree Nursery

We operate a large nursery specialising in high quality grafted Tropical Fruit Trees.

Our Tropical Fruit Trees are grown and grafted in our dedicated nursery and are the same as what we commercially cultivate. Our range of grafted Tropical Fruit Trees includes Durian,  Rambutan, Abiu, Jackfruit, Mangosteen, Langsat, Longkong, Chempadek and Monkey Jack.

Mechanical Pruning

We own and operate a modern mechanical pruner designed and constructed by Industrias David (Spain). Our pruner can be used to undertake mechanical pruning of fruit tree orchards, maintenance of roadways, rail corridors and power lines.

Contract pruning is undertaken in accordance with strict health and safety management plan, including compliance with bio-security requirements.
